Beta tester

I signed up, download, burned to DVD and tried to install Microsoft Vista Beta 2.
It
will not install on either my 6 computers I have, I crashes at the beginning. All 6 computers I have are MS Vista ready, that just proof that I will "NOT" buy this operating system in the future. That is a major bug.
Since the Beta program for MS Vista Beta 2 is closed there no sense to continue with this operating system.

Have you tried disconnecting all external peripherals, i.e., USB modem/router, printers, scanners etc prior to attempting to install Vista?

Going back to what I said, I had tried 6 computers. One of them was fresh out-of-the-box, this computer had no operating system install and it was VISTA ready (sticker on the CPU). The only devices I connected to this computer was : Keyboard, mouse, monitor.
Again, I will NOT buy this operating system (MS VISTA) in the future, it has to many bugs. LINUX IS WAY BETTER!

Just curious; how many Beta versions of Linux have you used that did not contain glitches, errors , incomplete documentation, etc... -- Mark
My favourite so far: Unknown device has been correctly installed.

I don't use Beta versions of Linux, full retail only!
Linux is faster, no errors what so ever and trouble free, you get tons of documentation with the retail versions. The best part it cost way less than MS operating systems.

Maybe the change and very curious to see what MS has changed in the new operating system, because of the MS Vista Beta 2, tried other MS operating systems and all I was getting was everyday errors with the bloated software.

Lets see.. a full install of Suse or Redhat or Mandrake even without installing stuff I don't use ended up a big as my fully loaded XP. Yup, Linux ain't bloated.

As Vista is in beta it is expected to cause problems. What's the point of beta testers if it is not to try to find these bugs. I moan regularly about beta products, but only because they are not doing what i expect them to do. If they simply don't work or don't install i just wait until a build comes along that will work or install. It's all part of a beta testers day. As for Linux you can forget it. But that is my opinion.

If you tried multiple burns of the .iso format did you try different .iso buring products since if downloaded file was just copied to a DVD without the proper .iso DVD burning software they would not work. "Piezo" wrote in message

Ted, it was not a problem with your computers OR Vista.. it was most likely a bad DVD burn. There are very specific directions on how to burn the ISO for vista. before you try to burn another dvd, check the CRC or MD5 of the downloaded ISO to make sure it it is not corrupt, this is where most people have had there problems.
check the microsoft.public.windows.vista.installation_setup newsgroup and search the messages for the checksum information

I'd suspect a truncated download or a problem with the ISO burn. Did you check the ISO's integrity with a CRC utility?: Reburn Option: 1) Burn slowly. 4X should be fine. Some of this probably varies with the DVD writer and the media. 2) Make sure to select an ISO tab if there is one on the burning software, and make sure to close the session on the burn. 3) Try this tweak on your Windows XP drive and burn from there: Get to Dev Manager by typing devmgmt.msc in run/win key + pause break or Rt.click My Computer>Prop>hardware tab>Device Manager if you like 5 steps instead of one cmd. If you're set to PMI here change to DMO and if set to DMO change to PMI using these 5 steps: 1) Click the + in front of IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers 2) Double Click the Secondary IDE Controller 3) Click Advanced Settings 4) Under Device 1 Next to Transfer Mode choose DMA (or vise versa)>Click OK 5) Reboot your System 6) Check your burn with a CRC utility and the links for this are below including the direct Taco Bell link. It is very classy, sophisticated, and very Wagner Edstrom/McCann Ericson esque for MSFT to adopt a Taco Bell url for their public Beta 2 CRC checker. Rock on Redmond Rednecks. Obtain CRC Utility for Vista Beta 2 Here: (The CRC utility is a way to check the integrity of the ISO Burn which is probably where your problem lies--it's #1 on the list): Here's a link: The CRC utility for Beta 2 is contained here (Scroll down to the bottom under "Additional Information" Microsoft® Windows® Software Development Kit (SDK) for Beta 2 of Windows Vista and WinFX Runtime Components http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=13F8E273-F5EA-4B7B-B022-97755838DB94&displaylang=en Additional Information: To verify that your download of an ISO file for the Windows SDK Beta 2 build is not corrupt, download the CRC Utility. (Note: this is not a Microsoft application. Use at your own risk.) To run the CRC test, open a command prompt and run the utility. providing it the name of the file (i.e. crc c:\6.0.5383.1.1.WindowsSDK_Vista_idw.DVD.Rel.img) The CRC utility will run two tests on the ISO: it will verify if the ISO is valid, and it will give the AutoCRC signature for the file. The AutoCRC signature for the Windows SDK Beta 2 ISO is 0x28434EEF. You should also confirm the size of the ISO is correct: 1.14 GB (1,229,355,008 bytes). If it fails any of these three tests, re-download the ISO. I really like the direct link to it though if you right click CRC here>left click Properties: http://tacobell.iexbeta.com/longhorn/crc.exe Good luck, CH

I really like the direct link to it though if you right click CRC here>left click Properties: http://tacobell.iexbeta.com/longhorn/crc.exe Good luck, CH

I signed up, download, burned to DVD and tried to install Microsoft Vista Beta 2.
It will not install on either my 6 computers I have, I crashes at the beginning. All 6 computers I have are MS Vista ready, that just proof that I will "NOT" buy this operating system in the future. That is a major bug.
Since
the Beta program for MS Vista Beta 2 is closed there no sense to continue with this operating system.

You offered no info as to whether (given that far and away the #1 cause of problems with Vista Beta setup are the ISO burn and you do have a downloaded ISO)
1) what the CRC tool I gave you said about your ISO burn 2) If necessary, what the result was of reburning the ISO
CH "Ted F" wrote in message As I said before, the Microsoft Vista Beta 2 is "CLOSED", therefore, I can NOT re-download the iso from microsoft.
I will stick with the LINUX Operating System I'm using now and stay away from Micosoft operating system products, they have too many bugs not solved.

I am in the same kind of bind as you, only mine just opens Internet Explorer

and does nothing. I have left my computer on for a month now, nothing. I probably will not be buying the OS when it comes out.
